You must have applied for another temporary visa before your previous visa expired. You don't need to apply for an interim visa - we usually grant them automatically. An interim visa may allow you to continue working or studying – it'll depend on the visa you've applied for and the visa you had before.
- You can not apply for an interim visa, it will be granted automatically if you’re eligible.
- Your interim visa will be granted electronically. There won’t be a physical visa label in your passport.
- Your interim visa will start when your current visa expires.
- We only grant interim visas to people who have applied for temporary visas.

不管是在线提交了visa申请还是通过中介，都需要等待一段时间才能收到临时签证。理论上来说，移民局会在你的签证过期之前发email给你(Subject: Your pending 1917xxxx application with Immigration New Zealand)。一般是word或pdf文档。打印出来即可使用。

- 新申请的签证批下来就自动过期 if we approve your application and grant you a visa, or
- 新申请的签证被拒绝或撤销后的21天 21 days after your application is declined, or withdrawn, or

新西兰临时签证能打工吗？如何获得新西兰临时签证？新西兰临时签证也叫“过桥签证”、“过渡签证”，官方英文名称Interim Visa。它是按照2009年新西兰移民法的相关条款所签发的一种签证，目的是为了防止新西兰签证申请人在正常的签证处理过程中变成非法逾期居留者。新西兰过桥签证对于希望延长在新西兰居留时间的访问者、留学生、工作人士以及申请居留权的人士都适用。
持有临时签证的人士，即便您手中的签证已经到期，持有者也不会在新西兰变为非法居留状态。过桥签证通常情况下并不需要变为实际的贴纸粘在签证上，它实际上是一个自动签发的电子签证；获得过桥签证的人士将自动获得新西兰移民局的电子邮件通知。过桥签证的有效期并不长，通常移民局为了避免发生“不同类型签证有效期冲突”的情况，会严格将临时签证的有效期设为新的签证的审理时间长度，也就是说，如果您申请的签证需要一个月时间进行审理，那么过桥签证的有效期也就是在一个月的时间上。

举一个例子，留学生朋友从新西兰的某学校毕业了，毕业后持有一年期的开放式工签找到了一份工作，工作得不错你的雇主愿意担保你继续工作；签证持有人开始申请雇主担保的工作签证，那么在这个审理过程中（通常为一到两个月）很有可能会变成 Interim Visa 也就是过桥签证；必须要记得在这种情况下你的过桥签证是不可以打工的，一定要告诉你的雇主，暂时停止发放工资直到新的签证下来为止；否则，等于你在新西兰使用旅游签证打工，那么这条“黑记录”有可能影响你今后的移民新西兰之路。
